A coast with several uses
Xatt l-Aħmar lies on the southern shore near the Mġarr harbour area and appears in official Gozo outdoor and walking information. Its attraction is the combination of open views, rocky shore and relative closeness to the arrival point. Divers also use the area, so a visitor on land should keep equipment, vehicles and shoreline access in mind.
Bring an ordinary exit plan
Do not mistake proximity to the ferry harbour for a flat or effortless walk. Look at the specific road or path, carry drinking water and check how much daylight remains. A short viewpoint outing can be a good choice even if you decide against going onto the rocks. Agree on a clear turning point rather than continuing along the coast indefinitely.
Separate diving from sightseeing
A wreck-diving reputation tells you little about whether a site suits your own training or the day’s conditions. Discuss any underwater visit with a qualified local dive centre and keep a separate land-based alternative. If you are simply exploring Gozo between ferry journeys, leave enough time to return without rushing or attempting an unfamiliar shortcut.
The useful details.
- Keep dive access clear.
- Check the specific approach and return gradient.
- Allow a generous margin before your ferry.
