Understand the setting
Ħondoq ir-Rummien sits below Qala on Gozo’s south-eastern coast, looking across the channel towards Comino. The small beach is only one part of the outing: the surrounding limestone, boat movements and open water shape the experience. Arrive expecting a compact place rather than a long resort beach, and choose a spot without obstructing access to the shore.
Plan the return before descending
The descent from the village is part of the journey, so check how everyone will get back uphill. A lift arranged for the return can be more useful than an ambitious circular walk. Carry what you need for the visit and keep enough energy for leaving; do not assume a food outlet, vehicle or shaded waiting place will always be available.
Add one village pause
If you want a second stop, make it Qala’s village centre rather than another distant beach. This gives the day a different texture without crossing the island again. For a longer walking plan, use the official Ħondoq route booklet separately and check its roads and paths against current conditions. A published route is not permission to cross a closed gate.
The useful details.
- Check your return transport while still in Qala.
- Keep shore access clear of bags and towels.
- Follow local signs and the actual sea conditions.
