Your first Malta visit: a flexible three-day starting point

Three distinct days, with room to switch the coast around the weather.

Day one: Valletta

Begin with a full day in Valletta. Choose one main interior, such as St John’s Co-Cathedral or the Grand Master’s Palace, then give the streets and harbour views the rest of your time. Book only what needs a commitment and leave lunch flexible. If you arrive late, make this a half-day orientation and move the interior visit to another morning.

Day two: Mdina and Rabat

Keep the second day in one area: explore Mdina, pause for lunch and choose a Rabat archaeology visit if it interests you. St Paul’s Catacombs give the day a different focus from the capital. A coastal stop afterwards is optional, not a requirement. Choose it only when daylight, transport and energy make it a comfortable addition.

Day three: choose the island day you want

Use the final day for one coastal destination or a carefully planned Gozo trip. If choosing Gozo, allow separately for reaching the harbour, sailing and travelling onward. Do not add Comino simply because it looks nearby. This is an editorial outline rather than a package: swap days around opening dates and weather, confirm booked admissions and keep a final travel buffer before a flight.

PLAN YOUR VISIT

The useful details.

  • One main region per day reduces unnecessary travel.
  • Move the coastal day around actual conditions.
  • Keep ferry and airport buffers separate from sightseeing.
