An arch in a wider landscape
Wied il-Mielaħ lies beyond Għarb, where a cultivated valley meets the northern coast. The natural rock window is the best-known feature, but the route through the countryside is part of the visit. It is a separate formation from the Azure Window at Dwejra, which collapsed in2017. Use the right place name when arranging a lift or reading a map.
Keep the viewing plan simple
Follow the established approach and take in the arch from the designated public side. A closer or more dramatic photograph is not a reason to cross barriers or move onto unstable-looking edges. Check footwear, wind and the practical return before setting off. If the coast feels exposed, the valley and village can provide a worthwhile shorter outing.
Return through Għarb
A pause in Għarb gives the excursion a useful beginning or finish, with a different pace from the headland. The official Ta’ Ġurdan Walk links several western Gozo landscapes, but it is a walking itinerary rather than a quick sequence of roadside stops. Choose either the full route or this focused visit and allow enough daylight for the version you actually intend.
The useful details.
- Tell your driver Wied il-Mielaħ, not Dwejra.
- Use established public viewing approaches.
- Keep a daylight margin for the return.
