Sanap cliffs: choose a short, deliberate viewpoint walk

Approach Gozo’s southern cliffs as an exposed landscape outing, with a firm turning point and a sensible return.

Begin on the landward side

Sanap forms part of the southern Gozo landscape described in the official Xlendi Walk. The attraction is a broad cliff-top perspective rather than a single monument. Start by choosing an established approach from the Munxar area and understanding where it leads. A line that looks continuous on a satellite image may conceal changes of surface, access or gradient.

Let the conditions set the length

An exposed coast offers little protection when wind, heat or rain change the outing. Carry water and suitable layers, and allow everyone to set a comfortable pace. Keep well back from cliff edges and avoid sitting or posing on projecting rock. The worthwhile view does not depend on finding the most dramatic position for a photograph.

Finish somewhere practical

Munxar or Xlendi can provide the day’s social anchor, but a walk between them is a separate route choice requiring time and navigation. Arrange transport before leaving the village if you do not intend to return on foot. For a longer day, consult the official walking booklet and check current access. Treat a shorter out-and-back as a complete outing rather than an unfinished hike.
