Write down an address that works

Before ordering anything, confirm the complete delivery address with your host or landlord: building name or number, street, locality and postcode. A map pin alone is not a postal address. Check whether the entrance, letterbox and apartment number are clearly identifiable and whether someone can accept a delivery. For a hotel or serviced apartment, ask permission before using reception as a parcel collection point. Keep the seller's confirmation and tracking reference until the item is in your hands. When a message requests payment or personal details, open the official postal service yourself rather than relying on an unexpected link.

Use lockers for the right purpose

MaltaPost's Easipik network offers parcel collection through lockers in Malta and Gozo. Registration, identity verification and the correct locker address matter: do not simply enter the location of a locker you have seen on a walk. The official instructions explain the customer code and collection notification. Check the current size, weight, courier and charging conditions before ordering something bulky. Crucially, the Easipik terms say that the network is for parcels, not letter mail, and is not an alternative official address for companies, banks or utilities. A convenient collection locker therefore cannot solve every address requirement associated with moving to Malta.

Plan a move or an absence

Mail redirection and temporary mail custody are separate MaltaPost services. Redirection concerns mail addressed to an old address; custody concerns holding mail while you are away. Read the application instructions, signatures and identity-document requirements for the people affected, and allow time for processing before your departure. Do not treat redirection as a substitute for telling a bank, employer or public authority that your address has changed. For a missing parcel, start with the tracking record and the seller or carrier responsible for the shipment. Keep enquiries in one place and record any reference number. If your tenancy ends before an expected delivery, resolve the address with the sender promptly instead of assuming the next occupant will forward it.
