Mġarr ix-Xini: make the valley part of the visit

A narrow Gozo inlet suits an unhurried visit with attention to the approach, working landscape and return journey.

Notice the shape of the inlet

Mġarr ix-Xini is a narrow coastal inlet reached through a valley on Gozo’s southern side. The enclosing landscape gives it a different character from a broad sandy bay. Take a moment to understand the approach road, shore and boat activity before choosing where to stop. Do not treat the inlet as an empty playground simply because it is small.

Keep the plan realistic

Decide whether you want a shore visit, a meal or an organised activity. Trying to combine all three with another distant bay can make the day depend on too many uncertain details. If you have arranged a lift, agree on the collection point and timing in advance. Carry essentials yourself and confirm any catering or equipment service directly.

Explore with appropriate boundaries

The surrounding gorge is striking, but steep or broken terrain does not become a marked visitor trail just because it is visible. Use established routes and consider an experienced local activity operator for specialist exploration. For a broader walking day, consult the official Xlendi Walk route, which includes this southern coast. Leave walls, plants and private land undisturbed.
