Separate interest from suitability
Gozo’s southern coast includes deliberately scuttled vessels that form part of the island’s diving offer. Seeing photographs of a wreck can make it the centre of a holiday wish list, but the name alone says little about suitability for an individual diver. Send a centre your qualifications and recent experience, and ask which available programme they would recommend.
Ask exactly what is proposed
Clarify the intended site and the nature of the dive without assuming that visiting a wreck means entering it. Training, equipment and experience requirements differ between activities. Leave technical decisions and practical instruction to an appropriately qualified professional. A travel guide can help you organise the holiday but should not provide an underwater route or a substitute for a briefing.
Build a broader island day
The landward coast around southern dive areas has its own landscape, so companions can plan a separate visit when access and conditions allow. Agree on a reliable meeting arrangement rather than following the dive group across equipment handling areas. Keep the diving schedule flexible, and choose accommodation or transport that will still work if the centre changes sites on the day.
The useful details.
- Ask the centre to match the programme to your experience.
- Clarify what the proposed wreck visit includes.
- Keep a separate plan for companions on land.
