Għadira Bay: plan a long sandy-shore afternoon

Mellieħa Bay suits a straightforward beach outing when arrival, equipment and the journey back to the village are organised.

Distinguish bay and village

Għadira is the large bay below Mellieħa, not the hilltop village centre. Accommodation or a bus stop described as Mellieħa may therefore involve a separate journey to the sand. Check the actual arrival point and where you will meet again before spreading out along the shore. A precise meeting place matters more than the general destination name.

Choose your part of the shore

Walk a little before settling down so you can see access points, local signs and the relationship between beach and road. Keep luggage and equipment away from routes used by other visitors. Anyone needing a particular surface, toilet or mobility aid should confirm current arrangements rather than assuming that every section offers the same facilities.

Keep the return comfortable

Plan the trip back uphill to the village or onward to your accommodation before the end of the afternoon. A meal in Mellieħa can be a useful finish, but allow time to change and travel without rushing. Check the actual sea conditions before entering the water and keep an alternative dry-land activity for the group. A long sandy beach is not a guarantee of suitable conditions.
