Għajn Tuffieħa: allow for the steps as well as the sand

Choose the right bay

Għajn Tuffieħa and Golden Bay are neighbouring destinations, but they are not interchangeable entrances to the same beach. Check the place name when arranging transport and identify the access you intend to use. Għajn Tuffieħa’s stepped approach deserves attention before everyone is carrying bags, a picnic and equipment down towards the shore.

Keep the load manageable

Pack what your group can comfortably carry back uphill. A smaller beach kit often makes the whole visit easier than a large collection of comforts. Consider footwear for the approach and enough drinking water for the return. If anyone cannot manage the steps, choose a different destination rather than assuming help or an alternative entrance will appear.

Leave the headland undisturbed

Enjoy the views from established public paths and avoid making shortcuts through vegetation or on the slopes. The beach visit does not require a clifftop extension or an attempt to reach another bay on foot. Decide about swimming only after checking local signs and conditions. A shore walk, a picnic and time watching the landscape can be a complete day.
