Why go
Ġgantija is a UNESCO World Heritage site in Xagħra. The official Gozo information describes two prehistoric structures and an interpretation centre that introduces Neolithic life and objects from the island’s archaeological sites. That combination matters: the outdoor remains become more meaningful once you have considered the people, tools and rituals behind them. Make the visit about understanding a place rather than comparing it only with other famous ancient monuments. The size of the stones is striking, but the smaller details deserve attention as well.
A visit with context
Start indoors, then move to the structures with a few questions in mind. Look at the relationship between entrances, rooms and the shared boundary rather than simply taking the same wide photograph at each stop. If travelling with children, invite them to notice what survives and what has to be interpreted from evidence. Combine the park with time in Xagħra or one coastal destination according to your interests. Avoid booking another major attraction so tightly afterwards that the interpretation centre becomes something you hurry through on the way out.
Before you arrive
Use the official Heritage Malta ticket link from the Gozo tourism page for current admissions and visiting information. Check access arrangements directly if gradients, surfaces or assistance requirements matter to your group. Take water and sun protection for the outdoor section and leave time for a seated pause. Our two-hour allowance is an editorial starting point, not a guided-tour length, and visitors who enjoy archaeology may want longer. If you are crossing from Malta for the day, allocate the ferry and the journey to Xagħra separately from the site visit. A shorter itinerary is preferable to rushing the final return connection.
