Why go
Dwejra remains a major coastal destination even though the Azure Window collapsed in 2017. The official Gozo guide identifies the Inland Sea, Fungus Rock, the tower and the Blue Hole among the area’s features. These are reasons to visit the landscape that exists today, rather than search for a photograph that is no longer possible. The terrain and sea shape the experience. Approach the outing as a coastal visit with several possible viewpoints, not as an automatic swimming or boat-trip appointment.
Choose what you want to do
For a first visit, explore from established access points and spend time near the Inland Sea before deciding on anything more ambitious. If a local boat outing interests you, ask about the current conditions and precise route before committing. If diving is the purpose, arrange it with an appropriately qualified operator and let that activity determine the day. A short land visit, a dive day and a relaxed afternoon are three different plans. Pair Dwejra with one other western Gozo stop rather than promising a complete island circuit.
Respect the conditions
Keep well back from exposed edges and avoid the rough shoreline in poor weather. Apparent calm from one viewpoint is not a reliable description of another entry point. Do not enter the Blue Hole or attempt a swim because you have seen it recommended for someone else’s experience level. Wear shoes with grip for the land visit, take water and leave a generous return margin to the harbour if day-tripping. Our suggested time covers a measured walk and pauses. Boat operation, tower access and any specialist activity should be checked directly on the day.
The useful details.
- The Azure Window is no longer standing.
- Confirm any boat trip locally against the day’s conditions.
- Treat diving as a planned specialist activity.
