Choosing an English course in Malta: use the licensed-school list

Start with the ELT Council

Malta’s ELT Council publishes the official list of licensed English-language schools and information about licensed annexes. Use it to identify the provider before comparing course offers. The teaching address can be a main school or an approved annexe, especially for seasonal programmes. Ask which location your course will actually use. A school’s general St Julian’s or Sliema description does not establish the daily journey from your accommodation.

Choose the course by its purpose

General English, conversation, business language and examination preparation serve different goals. Ask about level assessment, lesson duration, class size and the timetable. For an adult with work commitments, the start and finish of each teaching day may matter as much as the weekly lesson count. If you want a longer public adult-learning course rather than a short language holiday, compare the Directorate for Lifelong Learning’s English provision as a separate option.

Read the whole package

Course fees, materials, transfers, accommodation and activities may be sold together or separately. Identify the actual cancellation and change terms and who provides each element. For younger students, ask about supervision and the programme outside lessons; a licensed teaching provider does not answer every question about an accommodation package. Retain the confirmation with the course name, dates and teaching location. The right choice should fit the skill you want to develop and the week you can realistically attend.
