Understand the two parts
A physical identity or residence document and an eID online account are different things. Identità describes the eID account as the means of accessing government online services, using the identity number with a password you create. Its virtual-account guidance explains the application and activation process for holders of valid identity documents. If a service asks you to sign in, having the card in a drawer does not necessarily mean the online account has already been activated.
Use the official activation process
Check the current Identità instructions and use the email address you control. The authority verifies the application before sending an activation link. If you have applied with an identity-card process, retain the reference and check the stated route rather than creating duplicate requests. Card certificates, PINs and the ordinary online login can serve different functions; identify which one the service actually requires before buying equipment or trying to reset something unrelated.
Resolve access with the right team
Ordinary email and mobile contact details can be updated by signing in at eid.gov.mt and selecting Change Settings, then Contact Settings. Identità’s guidance directs card PIN resets to the Identity Cards Unit. Explain whether a problem concerns activation, password access or a card PIN so support can identify the right route. Keep credentials and activation links private. Store confirmations from individual government services separately; a working login does not prove that an application was completed or accepted.
The useful details.
- Identify whether the issue concerns the card or online login.
- Use an email address you control.
- Keep service submission confirmations separately.
