Tell the operator where you are starting

A first underwater experience, a qualification course and a guided dive for a certified diver are different products. Describe your training, recent experience and comfort level honestly when contacting a centre. Operators such as Maltaqua and Watercolours publish separate course and guided-diving information. Ask which activity fits your situation and what it includes instead of booking solely around a famous wreck photograph. The most useful choice is the experience that suits you, rather than the deepest or most dramatic site shown in a promotional gallery.

Check requirements before paying

Ask about required documentation, operator screening, equipment, meeting point, transport and cancellation arrangements. Watercolours publishes requirements for certification evidence and logbooks for qualified visitors, and explains that refresher or assessment dives may be required. Follow the selected operator’s own process and refer health or fitness questions to an appropriate professional; a travel guide cannot clear anyone to dive. If you have been away from diving, discuss that before arrival. Confirm how the centre chooses the site and what happens if conditions prevent the original plan.

Leave room around the activity

Do not build the day around a fixed list of dive sites before the operator has assessed the conditions and your experience. Check the expected finish time and allow for equipment, briefing and travel, rather than counting only the time in the water. Tell the centre about relevant onward travel and follow its professional guidance when arranging the rest of your trip. For a mixed-interest group, plan a separate activity for companions instead of assuming they can join every boat or wait comfortably at every entry point. Choose clear communication over a rushed booking.
