Choose the correct certificate
Identità’s Public Registry issues civil-status documents including birth, marriage, civil union, cohabitation, free status and death certificates. Its FAQs distinguish a full certificate from an extract: they do not carry exactly the same information. Ask the organisation requesting the document which form it needs before ordering. If the event has only just been notified, wait for confirmation that it has been registered rather than repeatedly placing orders for a record not yet available.
Use the official ordering portal
Certifikati.identita.gov.mt is the official online route. Prepare the names, dates, places and other details requested for the particular document. The portal supports eID access and also an ordering route for visitors. Check collection or delivery arrangements and the current processing information. If you need a document for use abroad, identify whether a multilingual standard form, authentication or another requirement applies before completing the order. The receiving authority’s instructions matter.
Keep the order traceable

If a certificate contains an apparent error, contact the Public Registry with the reference and accurate details rather than altering the document yourself.
