Day one: make Valletta the whole plan
Use Valletta for an introductory day with one substantial interior, a street walk and a harbour pause. If your base is across the water, check the relevant ferry service and return sailing before leaving. Keep the late afternoon flexible rather than booking a second museum because the city looks small. Steep side streets and time inside attractions can fill a day comfortably. If you want a harbour crossing as part of the experience, choose its destination deliberately and check which landing serves it.
Day two: keep Mdina and Rabat together
Plan a bus journey to the Mdina and Rabat area, then explore on foot at a measured pace. Choose either a museum in Mdina or a deeper archaeology visit in Rabat as the day’s main interior. Lunch and an unplanned street walk give the towns room to feel distinct. Return before you are exhausted rather than adding a separate distant coast simply because it appears in another itinerary. Check the current planner for your actual accommodation and travel date, including the final walk home.
Day three: choose by the connection
Select a beach or coastal outing that has a comfortable return route from your base. Make Golden Bay, Marsaxlokk or another chosen locality the main destination rather than chaining several together. If you would rather spend the day on Gozo, replace the coastal plan and research the full ferry connection; do not bolt the island onto an already full afternoon. This outline is an editorial suggestion, not a timed package. Swap the days around opening dates and sea conditions, save essential bookings offline and allow generous margins for any flight or onward travel.
The useful details.
- Keep each day in one main region.
- Plan the return journey before staying late.
- Replace a day with Gozo rather than squeezing it in.
