Understand the festival format
The National Book Council organises the Malta Book Festival, bringing publishers, booksellers and cultural participants together at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali. The 2026 edition runs from 4 to 8 November, with free attendance to the festival and its events according to the official page. The appeal extends beyond shopping: programme sessions offer ways to meet writers, hear discussion and explore subjects that might not appear in an ordinary bookshop visit.
Choose a small programme
Read the current programme and select a few sessions with enough time between them to browse. Check the language and intended audience, particularly for children’s activities or a discussion on a specialised subject. A family can let each person choose one session and one area of books to explore. If you want to discover Maltese writing, ask exhibitors about an accessible starting point and whether a translation or bilingual edition is available.
Treat the venue as the day’s destination
MFCC is in Ta’ Qali, so plan around that location rather than assuming the festival is in central Valletta. Check the official day-specific opening times and any session instructions shortly before attending. Bring a way to note titles and authors if you prefer to compare books before purchasing. After a conversation or reading, look for the relevant publisher’s stand while the subject is fresh. Keep the current edition’s programme: dates and arrangements from an older festival will not describe the next one.
