Read the full product name

Malta’s Kinnie brand includes the original soft drink and other variants, including alcoholic aperitivo products. Read the actual label or menu wording rather than ordering by the brand alone when avoiding alcohol. Ask about sugar-free choices, caffeine or other ingredients that matter to you. A familiar-looking bottle or a drink described as refreshing does not settle those questions; the producer’s current range is the appropriate reference.

Discuss the restaurant’s alternatives

A good drinks choice can be a soft drink, coffee, tea, juice or a specially prepared alcohol-free combination. At a tasting-menu restaurant, ask whether a non-alcoholic pairing is offered and what it includes, instead of assuming that declining wine leaves only water. Specify if you need to avoid alcohol entirely, including in bitters or fermented ingredients. The same care applies to a mocktail whose name does not reveal its full preparation.

Keep the occasion easy

Choose a venue where the group can order different drinks without making anyone’s preference a negotiation. Confirm the price of a special pairing or large-format drink before ordering. For a picnic or family outing, buy a manageable quantity and carry reusable water where appropriate. Keep bottles and cans until you can dispose of them properly. Exploring a local drink should add to the meal, not require taking alcohol or a particular sweetener simply because others are ordering it.
